Parking in Kristiansand

Parking in Kristiansand can be difficult in the summer. As the town is considered the capital of Norway’s Riviera, the town is crowded!

There is nowhere in the town where you can park for free, there is a parking fee everywhere and inspectors are constantly going around to check that you have paid. The fine for not paying is 900 NOK (approximately 80 Euros).

In most places you can use the EasyPark-app on your smartphone, which is a good idea to download if you do not already have it. You do not pay per hour, you pay for exactly the time you have spent parking, but you must remember to activate the parking in the app, and stop it when you leave.

There are two places that we ourselves find very convenient. One is the underground parking under the town square («Torvet parkering»), and the other one is at Odderøya, close to the Kilden Culture House, the Kunstsilo and the Fiskebrygga.

Torvet parkering

Torvet parkering is easy to find and you will find yourself right in the centre of the town, and conveniently located close to the main shopping street, Markens gate. You might find it a bit pricey, though, it costs (2025) 40 NOK for the first hour, rising up to 54 NOK per hour if you stay there for four hours or more.

To get to Torvet parkering from Nodeland, you drive the E39 to Kristiansand, and in the middle of the town tunnel you turn right, following the sign to «Sentrum». When you get out of the tunnel and drive through the roundabout, drive straight ahead in the left lane, and you will be taken right down into the parking facilities.

You can see the entrance to Torvet parkering in Google Maps by clicking here.

Parking at Odderøya

Parking at Odderøya is also very convenient. It is right next door to Kunstsilo, Kilden Culture House and close to Fiskebrygga with all the restaurants that you will find there.

It is fairly easy to find your way from Nodeland. Once you have driven through the first tunnel, make sure that you stay in the right lane, as if you are driving to the Denmark ferry. When you have passed the roundabout where you drive down to the ferry, keep straight ahead and cross the bridge over the railway lines. Turn right into «Vestre Strandgate», and follow it straight ahead almost until the end. But right before the bridge at the end you turn right, and follow that street over to Odderøya. As soon as you have crossed the bridge you will see the parking house on your left hand. There will normally be enough free space in the house, but if it should be full you could try to drive a few metres past the house and then turn left up to the outdoor parking space that is up there.

The address is «Sjølystveien 9», and you can check the location on Google Maps by clicking here.

There are quite a few other parking possibilities for parking in Kristiansand as well, if you want to check you could try the town authorities’ own internet pages about parking. The pages are in Norwegian, but you get a Google Translate version of it if you click the language of your choice on the top of it. You find the pages by clicking here.
